There are many plastic surgery procedures available that can drastically improve a patient’s appearance, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Many patients have more than one area they would like to address and often ask us how many procedures they can have done at once. If you’re dissatisfied with your appearance and think cosmetic surgery is right for you, contact H-MD Medical Spa in Oklahoma City, OK to find out more.
The Concept of Multiple Procedures
Undergoing more than one procedure at a time may seem like a lot, but it’s actually quite common for a surgeon to conduct more than one cosmetic procedure at a time, especially when the procedures target adjacent areas of the body. We perform several cosmetic procedures at our medical spa and are happy to accommodate most patients looking to undergo more than one procedure at a time.
How Many Plastic Surgery Procedures Can Be Done at Once?
When patients are considering having more than one procedure done at a time, the number of procedures they can undergo will depend on a few factors, including how close the areas are to one another, how much time you have to recover, and how many procedures our surgeon is comfortable performing at once.
Are the Areas You Want Treated in Close Proximity?
The best results can be obtained when a patient is interested in multiple procedures in one area of the body. A common example of multiple procedures in close proximity includes a facelift and an eyelid lift. Since both procedures seek to improve the appearance of your face, it makes sense that they would be performed together in patients whose desired results require work in both areas.
A facelift works to rejuvenate and tighten the skin around your face but generally doesn’t affect the eyes, so patients who undergo a facelift are often left with eyelids that still appear heavy, wrinkled, and tired. An eyelid lift addresses the area around your eyes but does not have a rejuvenating effect on the entirety of your face. Therefore, performing both procedures at the same time can provide far more dramatic results than undergoing only one procedure at a time.
How Much Recovery Time Do You Have Available?
Not every procedure requires the same amount of time to recover. When you undergo more than one procedure at a time, the required downtime for one procedure can be longer than for another, resulting in a necessary increase in the amount of recovery time you’ll experience.
For example, an eyelid lift can require that you spend a week or so home from work. However, when combined with a facelift, you’ll probably be instructed to take two weeks off from work while you heal. If you have difficulty getting time off or finding someone to help you with your daily tasks while you recover, you may want to rethink having more than one procedure done at once.
Our Surgeon’s Comfort Level With Multiple Procedures
Performing more than one cosmetic procedure at once isn’t uncommon. However, just because a surgeon can perform more than one procedure at a time doesn’t mean it’s the best option for the patient. One thing that can cause a surgeon to recommend undergoing one procedure at a time has to do with the patient and how much time they’ll spend under anesthesia.
Surgeons are generally more comfortable with younger, healthier patients in their 30s being anesthetized for several hours while multiple procedures are performed. It might not be as safe for an older patient in their 50s or 60s to be anesthetized for the same period of time. As a result, it might be safer to suggest that the patient in the second scenario undergo two separate procedures.
Your Health and Safety Are Paramount
The biggest defining factor regarding whether you can undergo multiple plastic surgery procedures at a time is your overall health. It’s possible, and sometimes recommended, that a patient undergo multiple procedures in order to achieve their desired results. However, whether it’s recommended or not depends largely on how well your surgeon believes you’ll be able to recover from surgery.
If your surgeon deems that multiple procedures will put too much strain on your body, you’ll probably be advised to undergo the procedures one at a time. However, provided you’re in good overall health, the areas you want to be treated are in close proximity, and your surgeon is comfortable performing multiple procedures on you, you should be able to undergo multiple procedures at once.
Which Plastic Surgery Procedures Do We Provide?
We’re committed to helping you achieve your aesthetic goals, and we know that one person’s goals can differ widely from another person’s. We provide a number of treatments and procedures, including injectables, cosmetic surgery, chemical peels, PRP therapy, facials, and more. Whatever your cosmetic goals, we have a variety of treatments to help you reach them.
The process of aging can have adverse effects on your overall appearance. The quality of the collagen and elastin in your skin diminishes over time, resulting in excess loose skin, jowls, a double chin, and the appearance of deep lines and wrinkles.
A facelift has long been the gold standard when it comes to addressing the significant effects of aging on your face. This procedure has been performed for decades and, over that time, techniques have been refined and improved to provide you with a much more rejuvenated, youthful-looking appearance.
Is a Facelift Right for You?
Patients with sagging skin, loss of their facial shape, deep wrinkles and creases, a double chin, jowls, or other signs of aging make excellent candidates for a facelift. If you’re experiencing any combination of these, know that they can all be addressed via the procedure. Of course, it’s still important that you visit one of our experts to ensure you’re a suitable candidate for surgery.
What Is Recovery Like?
Recovery from a facelift will vary from patient-to-patient as healing time is based on the individual. It will also be influenced by the type of facelift you choose, as more than one option is available. Sutures are typically removed after a couple of weeks.
When Can You See the Results?
When you undergo a facelift, the results aren’t going to be readily seen immediately following your procedure. Your body will need some time to heal first. Also, since all bodies heal at different rates, it’s difficult to pinpoint exactly when you’ll be able to see the full range of results. That being said, the majority of facelift patients will start to notice their appearance improving by the day after about three weeks.
MACS (Mini Facelift)
Not everyone ages at the same rate, in the same areas, or at the same time. Nor does every patient choose to undergo plastic surgery procedures to achieve dramatic results. If the effects of aging on your face do not warrant a full facelift, or if the results you’re hoping to achieve are more subtle, a mini facelift may be the procedure for you.
What Is the Difference Between a Facelift and a MACS Mini Facelift?
A MACS mini facelift isn’t as in-depth as a traditional full facelift. Less of your facial skin is lifted and less excess loose skin is removed during the procedure. Since the procedure is both less invasive and less comprehensive than a facelift, the risk associated with the procedure is also significantly reduced. A mini facelift focuses on treating the deep tissues below your skin, while a traditional full facelift focuses on pulling the skin to eliminate deep wrinkles, creases, and excess skin laxity.
Is It for You?
Patients with excess skin around their cheeks, significant wrinkles around the mouth, sagging jowls and/or neck skin, are all candidates for a MACS mini facelift. It may seem like a candidate for a MACS mini facelift and a candidate for a traditional facelift are the same, but there is one important distinction between the two. To be a candidate for a MACS mini facelift, it’s important that you still possess some skin elasticity in your face.
What Is Recovery Like?
Recovering from a mini facelift takes less time than that required by a full facelift. Mini facelifts are not as invasive as full facelifts and, as a result, your body will require less healing to get back to normal. You’ll probably be advised to minimize your facial movements for about a week and will be fitted with a chin bandage to help keep everything in place.
Eyelid Surgery (Blepharoplasty)
Blepharoplasty seeks to address bags, sagging skin, and other signs of aging around your eyes. Traditional facelifts and mini facelifts generally don’t treat this area very well, so blepharoplasty was developed to help patients better achieve their cosmetic goals. That being the case, blepharoplasty is an excellent procedure to combine with your full or mini facelift to drastically improve and rejuvenate your appearance.
Is It for You?
Any patient, whether male or female, who is experiencing the effects of aging around their eyes and wants to do something about it make excellent candidates for the procedure. As a matter of fact, the benefits of a blepharoplasty procedure extend beyond your appearance.
Sagging and drooping skin around the eyes can reduce your field of vision, which is a common reason people choose to undergo the procedure. Whether your goals are pragmatic, cosmetic, or a combination of the two, patients in good overall health and who are realistic about what the procedure can and cannot do for them make excellent candidates for surgery.
What Is Recovery Like?
Whenever a patient has surgery on their eyelids, whether upper, lower, or both, the time it takes to recover from the procedure will vary from patient-to-patient. It’s important that you closely follow all the instructions provided to you by your surgeon to ensure your recovery goes as quickly and smoothly as possible.
At your initial consultation, you will be informed on exactly what you need to do to prepare for surgery and any steps to take that will make recovery as quick and comfortable for you as possible.
Turn Back the Clock With Our Plastic Surgery Procedures
Patients looking to achieve dramatic results often ask us if they can pair plastic surgery procedures with one another to cut down on their recovery time and the time it takes to achieve their desired cosmetic changes. Pairing procedures isn’t uncommon, but your ability to do so will depend on the proximity of the treated areas, the amount of recovery time you have available, and our surgeon’s comfort level with performing multiple procedures at once.
At our location, we can perform a full facelift, a MACS mini facelift, and eyelid surgery. The combination of a facelift (whether full or mini) and eyelid surgery can address multiple signs of aging at once, resulting in a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance.
