PRP Hair Treatments
In many cases, hair loss begins when the circulation of blood, nutrients, and other healing compounds to an individual’s hair follicles begins to stall. Short for “platelet rich plasma,” PRP hair treatments harness the body’s natural healing properties and use them to cultivate biologically favorable conditions for hair growth.
During a PRP hair treatment, blood is drawn from the patient and processed through a centrifuge. There, the platelet rich plasma component of the blood is carefully isolated. It is then carefully reinjected into strategic locations in the scalp.
This platelet rich plasma portion of the blood contains a particularly high concentration of the nutrients and growth factors, and is responsible for much of the healing capabilities of the blood. When injected into the scalp during a PRP hair treatment, it stimulates the stem cells within the hair follicle, accelerating the rate of tissue regrowth and renewal there. As the hair follicles are slowly repaired and invigorated, healthy, new hair begins to grow from them.
PRP with Micro-Needling
PRP can be used on its own, or combined with another effective hair restoration technique — micro-needling. During a micro-needling treatment, a series of small needles are passed over the scalp, creating injuries in the skin. These injuries are large enough that they trigger the body’s healing process, but not so large that patients experience scarring or extended downtime after receiving treatment.
When combined with PRP, micro-needling can dramatically speed up the process of hair growth, repairing the hair follicles even more quickly and bringing patients beautiful, natural-looking results.
